New Hub Post: “Terroristic Anti-Abortion Group Publishes Patient Docs Online”

9 May

After a bit of an unofficial blogging hiatus, I finally have a new post up on RadFem Hub. The anti-abortion wackjobs at Operation Rescue have a bunch of stolen medical documents from patients of an abortion clinic. So they put them online like the terrorist organization responsible citizens they are. And Kansas doesn’t care.

Excellent news! This post has also been republished on Radfem Hub.

In its latest quarterly publication “The Year in Hate and Extremism” (Issue 45, Spring 2012) the Southern Poverty Law Center, or SPLC, names Men’s Rights Activists as a hate group, citing the MRAs’ — alternately known as “Father’s Rights Activists” — virulent misogyny, spreading of false anti-woman propaganda and applauding and even encouraging acts of domestic terrorism and extreme violence against women and children, up to and including murder.  In the same issue, the SPLC reports on the activities of other hate groups with headlines such as Georgia Militia Members to be Tried Later this Year in Movement’s Latest Murder Plot; Son of Holocaust Memorial Shooter Discusses Family History of Racial Hate; and Animal Rights Extremist Camille Marino Calls for Violence.

For those not in the know, the SPLC

is a nonprofit civil rights organization dedicated to fighting hate and bigotry, and to seeking justice for the most…

Melissa Harris-Perry’s new show on MSNBC premiered this weekend, and Sunday’s show had a particularly excellent conversation on the fallout from the Obama administration’s decision on contraceptive coverage and religious employers.

Included: Sen. Barbara Boxer’s grandson’s concise observation about the all-male panel on contraception, multiple anecdotes about shifting male-centric framing in girls’ lives, and several plain truths about male supremacy that you will basically never find on cable news shows or television generally.

Men at Work

While I’m all for investing in infrastructure, I’m really starting to resent the message of “put our construction workers back on the job!” when my greatest prospect is becoming a minimum-wage secretary at one of these construction companies.

At least I can pretend to be one on Halloween!

Everybody Knows the (Debt) Deal is Rotten

Historiann and I seem to have recalled the same song upon today’s resolution of shit with MOAR SHIT.

Hopefully now everybody will also know that Republicans are mendacious jackasses who will always rely on extortion to get their way. And that they don’t give a single, flea-sized crap about the consequences.

(I prefer Elizabeth & the Catapult’s version to Leonard’s.)

The F Word: from Meghan Murphy, “Of course pornography is a prisoner’s right. Because women aren’t actually human beings.”

I Blame the Patriarchy: “A bit of lighthearted fun”. . . so it’s on consent and PIV, of course!

Echidne of the Snakes: “The Elizabeth Warren Case”. . . on Elizabeth Warren, who essentially created the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, being passed over for Obama’s nomination to lead it. Who got it? A dude with the same exact views as Warren.

Woman on a Journey: “Are t-shirts a women’s right? (Or, maybe they’d rather we go topless)” . . . on the creator of woman-born-woman shirts being threatened into stopping production.

Twanzphobic Since Forever: “Excuse me, which way to the Squirrel Bathroom?” . . . seriously commit this sentence to memory:

Any so-called internal identity that requires any form of external validation, is not an internal identity at all.

Cherryblossomlife: “Manufacturing GID” . . . on how ‘gender presentation’ is totally dependent on people buying a bunch of shit.

Femonade: “Strange Days”. . . on the horrific songs/videos for Rihanna’s S&M and Katy Perry’s E.T.

Newsweek: “The Growing Demand for Prostitution”. . . on a new study about ‘users’ of prostitutes and pornography [TW for sexual violence]. Perhaps the saddest part:

“We had big, big trouble finding nonusers,” Farley says. “We finally had to settle on a definition of non-sex-buyers as men who have not been to a strip club more than two times in the past year, have not purchased a lap dance, have not used pornography more than one time in the last month, and have not purchased phone sex or the services of a sex worker, escort, erotic masseuse, or prostitute.”
