Finally, as a palette cleanser for my last post, several instances of bloggers getting it right.
The Guardian: “How the rape claims against Julian Assange sparked an information war: Conspiracies, slander and misogyny have become every bit as central to debate as principles of justice” [TW for victim blaming and sexual violence]
Salon: from Kate Harding, “The Rush to Smear Assange’s Rape Accuser”.
From Jessica Valenti, “Naomi Wolf really needs to read the internet”. Seriously.
Update: Ok, wow, more details about the allegations came out earlier today that I missed. [TW]
The court heard Assange is accused of using his body weight to hold her down in a sexual manner.
The second charge alleged Assange “sexually molested” Miss A by having sex with her without a condom when it was her “express wish” one should be used.
The third charge claimed Assange “deliberately molested” Miss A on August 18 “in a way designed to violate her sexual integrity”. The fourth charge accused Assange of having sex with a second woman, Miss W, on August 17 without a condom while she was asleep at her Stockholm home.
How’s that for “rape-rape”?
It really saddens me that Julian Assange is being charged with this. I really support his work with wikileaks and I really hope this all gets sorted out.
I hate how the media jumps onto things and rushes to downgrade the victim’s allegations, however, I have only heard about the condom thing, I didn’t hear about the molestation, ugh.
Luckily, Julian Assange is not Wikileaks. You can totally support what Wikileaks does and acknowledge that Assange is probably a rapist. Progressive-minded dudes aren’t necessarily saints (see Eliot Spitzer, Kyle Payne, etc).
Yeah, good point. You are definitley right.
I’m so disgusted with the nonsense being said about the women who accused him “They were radical militant feminists…that’s what you get, Julian”
Unbelievable.
